Grady's First Day of School!

Posted on Sep. 8, 2009 at 6:37 PM - Post Comment

Today my little Grady went to school for the very first time!  He is in a 2/3 year old preschool program that meets 2 mornings per week.  I really love the school he is at, and he seems to like it already too!  This morning he got a little nervous as we were getting dressed and talking about school.  But then he did quite well.  It was funny though because he knows that school means he is "big", so when we got to school and I put his backpack on him, I put him down next to the car.  He is VERY good about not running off in a parking lot, so I didn't have a hand on him for a second, and he asked "do I walk in the parking lot alone now that I am big?"  But he asked it like he was concerned - so funny.  I told him "of COURSE not!"

Then he practically ran up the sidewalk and into the school (as you can see in the little video clip).  He got settled in right away and was happily playing, but I stayed for a bit.  He never cried or anything when I left, though he did say a few times "I only love you, so I want you to stay".  Anyway, the teachers report that he never cried or fussed, though he did ask about me a few times.

When I picked him up it was so cute.  His whole little class came out of the school together.  They were all holding hands with the teacher leading the way.  Grady was first, holding the teacher's hand.  When he saw me his whole face lit up, and he just yelled "Mama!!!"  I was also very proud to see that he had no accidents on his first day at school.  He had used the potty there and done just fine with that.  He told me lots of stories on the way home from school and said his favorite toy was the garbage truck.

Here are a few pictures, and a very cute (short) video of him excitedly running into the school building! I captured it - Grady entering school for the VERY first time!

Having breakfast before we left:

In front of the school - he was excited to wear his backpack.  The pictures aren't the greatest because I didn't want to harass him about getting good pictures.  I just wanted him to enjoy the moment.

Walking into school - haha - see how big the preschool backpack is on him, even on the smallest setting?

Washing hands -the first thing they have to do in the morning

This is the best - the three little girls were playing in the kitchen and Grady came over with a truck and put it on the counter.  Also notice that they are all looking at him :)

I am so happy with how the day went, and I hope he really has a great year!

Well it is super hot here and definitely does not feel like back to school time.  So once G got up from his nap we hit the pool.   Then we had a nice "back to school" family dinner together.  It was a great day!

I'll be back soon with Labor Day weekend pictures.  It was a fun-filled holiday, but I wanted to post about school first!
