Grady is 5 months old - getting teeth and trying new food!

Grady turned 5 months old on Friday, April 27.  He had a doctor's visit that day, and it went great!  First, they weighed him and told us that he was 14 pounds, 11.5 ounces.  That was an almost 3 pound gain from last month!  He is now around the 20-25th percentile in weight - a long way from the days where he was in the bottom 5th percent.  He looks great - a bit chubby but not fat - perfect for a baby.  They did not measure his length since he did not have a full well baby visit.  His next one of those will be at 6 months.  He also had 2 vaccinations, and he took them SO well.  I was amazed.  He only cried while the needle was in his leg.  As soon as they pulled it out he was totally fine.  That evening I gave him a nice massage before bed and he slept very well.  In fact, he slept until 9 the next morning (after getting up at 5:30 AM to eat).  I think the shots made him sleepy.

On Saturday we noticed that a tooth had finally broken through the gums on the bottom of Grady's mouth.  It is barely through, but it's definitely visible now!  So Grady has his first tooth.  Let's hope that he gets a little break from teething for a while.  We also took Grady on a nice walk on Saturday to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Today we fed Grady "solid" food for the first time.  He had some rice cereal and really seemed to like it.  After a few bites, he seemed to get the hang of it, and he actually started grabbing the spoon and pulling into his own mouth!  I am pretty sure he swallowed most of it, although some of it definitely ended up dribbling down his chin.  We will probably try oatmeal next week, but we want to take it slow because of his tummy issues.

This afternoon we took him out on a hike.  Eric carried him in the Baby Bjorn and we headed to the top of a small mountain in Lynchburg.  It is a beautiful, warm, sunny day, and from the top you can see the whole city and all of the mountains in the distance.  Grady did great - he stayed awake until we reached the top.  Then he took a nap while we walked back down and just walked around some more.

Now for pictures!

These were from our trip to the park last week.  He really enjoyed laying on the blanket and looking up at the trees.

Here he is looking chubby.  It was right after his doctor's visit, so he still has his Spiderman Bandaids on.  I had just given him his massage:

Now for a few videos...
